A Review of Jenny Worrall Table Lamps. Hand Made Potichomania Reverse Painted Lamps.

Jenny Worrall Table Lamps. Hand Made Reverse Decorated Lamps.

A Jenny Worrall lamp is a premium and high-quality product which carries a matching premium price tag, these quality hand-decorated table lamps are undoubtedly very beautiful and are very popular but is the Jenny Worrall range of table lamps worth the premium cost?

The Jenny Worrall lamp range is hand-decorated. The decoration is based on the Antique Victorian method of Potichomania. Potichomania is the process of printing or using paint to decorate the inside of a glass vessel, this process was developed during the 19th Century to imitate decorated porcelain ceramics.

Jenny Worrall Table Lamp bases are made from heavy hand-blown clear glass vessels that are clear and of very good quality. These quality glass vessels that form the main part of a Jenny Worrall lamp are decorated with hand-applied decals.
These glass vessels first have detailed decorations hand-applied followed by colours or metallics that finish the lamp and fill in the glass between the previously applied decals.

In the early days of Jenny Worrall lamps, the decorations were floral and based on detailed and accurate representations of plants and flowers, indeed Jenny Worrall did produce a range of table lamps that carried a Royal Horticultural Society badge due to the accurate representation of the plants decorated on the inside of the lamps. The range of Jenny Worrall lamps is still well known for floral and plant decorations but the range has expanded over the years to include some wonderful non-plant based versions which are equally as lovely, we will have a look at some of the range later in this review.

Jenny Worrall Table Lamps
Here is a Large preloved Jenny Worrall Table Lamp.

This lamp has a simple but appealing design base on Sycamore leaves and seeds. When I picked up this lamp I was stuck by the feel of build quality and the weight of the lamp, this particular lamp weighs 3Kg with the wiring and fittings making this larger lamp very stable in use.

Looking closely at the Sycamore decorations on this lamp I was very impressed with the effect provided by the thick blown glass body, the glass presents the applied sycamore decals as a crisp clear design that has a feeling of depth which is provided by the heavy glass body.

Being a premium item it is good to see that this Jenny Worrall lamp is equipped with premium fittings. The base is made from heavy moulded material that has an aged gold brushed finish that for all the world looks like wood. The base is a four-footed design with each foot having a felt pad that allows the lamp to be safely used on furniture with fine finishes. At the top, the lamp has a heavy pressed Brass lid that has an aged finish that matches the base. Wiring and fittings are excellent with operation via an inline switch.

These hand-decorated lamps are undoubtedly top quality. These reverse decorated beauties have the feel and look of a premium product. It is said that a single lamp takes 24 hours to complete; when you examine a Jenny Worrall lamp closely you can see why.

Are these wonderful lamps worth the high ticket price?
When you consider the build quality, hand-applied artwork and craftsmanship that is put into a Jenny Worrall lamp the answer is yes. I would highly recommend the Jenny Worrall range of table lamps.

There is one note of caution I would raise regards to the position of these lovely lamps in your home. Avoid bright areas that are washed with sunlight. Over the years I have come across a few preloved Jenny Worrall lamps that have been used in conservatories, these lamps always tend to have washed out and faded decals/decorations so I would not recommend them for use in conservatories or on bright south-facing windows.

New Jenny Worrall Lamps

The current range of Jenny Worrall lamps is a chocolate box of delights for people who love quality lighting. The range includes many wonderful lamps covering traditional Jenny Worrall floral and fauna subjects but also has a great selection of other decorative subjects that caters for a wide range of tastes. The quality of the decorations and the way they are applied provide a real Antique and aged look. Jenny Worrall lamps are often said to be the Antiques of the future.

Here are some of my favourites.
