The Art Deco period produced a highly stylised and distinct design style. Despite the Deco period being 100 years ago the designs and shapes used in a wide range of areas such as Fashion, Transport, Architecture as well as general homewares are still hugely popular today. The “official” birth of the Art Deco period was the 1925 “International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts” after which the new design style took its name. The Art Deco period saw the use of Angles, Clean lines and Geometric designs incorporated into everyday life and was an antithesis to the highly decorative and organic Art Nouveau movement which preceded the Art Deco era. Art Deco style lighting is as popular as ever and can be used as a standalone statement piece in a modern setting or can of course be incorporated into an Art Deco themed space.
Original Antique Art Deco lighting is widely available from specialist retailers both online and in Antique arcades and interior design centres. The ongoing popularity of the Art Deco concept has led to vintage Art Deco lighting achieving very high prices at auctions and from specialist lighting retailers. There is the option of buying vintage and unrestored Art Deco lights but this comes with the added cost, time and sometimes unpredictability of vintage lighting restoration. Reproduction Art Deco lighting is available but these reproductions vary greatly in quality and effectiveness in use.

The Glasshouse Nickel Opal & Clear Art Deco Pendant Lights.
